Mayor was moved by experience

To the Editor:

On April 4 a wonderful thing happened.

People from every corner of Putnam County came together, some perhaps out of curiosity, some to cheer on a friend or family member, some for an evening of good food and entertainment, but all to support our youth, through the work of the Putnam County Youth Development Commission.

For anyone who is not aware, the Youth Development Commission works with young people in our county. They train and provide CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children who are in our court system, anger management and "Thinking for a Change" classes for "at risk" youth and the Teen Court opportunity. Monies raised at the "Dancing with the Stars" event will help insure the continuation of their work.

Aside from a most successful fund raising effort, what we here in the Putnam County community should be proud of is what we can accomplish together. Even in these challenging times, the determination and commitment of our people, and our business partnerships can do the most amazing things.

We are our strength and the best assurance of a successful future.
