Reed to continue rehab in local program
A Greencastle woman awaiting trial on charges that she drugged her two young children will be allowed to transfer from a court-ordered rehabilitation program in Indianapolis to a local program.
Amy Marie Reed, 27, was arrested in October after an investigation was initiated by the Putnam County Department of Child Services. Reed's 1-year- and 3-month-old daughters tested positive for methamphetamine, methadone, cocaine and marijuana.
Reed, who was pregnant at the time of her arrest, spent several weeks in jail before being released in December so she could begin outpatient drug rehabilitation through the Salvation Army's Indianapolis-based Harbor Light program. She had been ordered by Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley to "transfer her current treatment program to a credible treatment provider in Putnam County," court records said.
Conditions for Reed's release will remain the same for her while she is in local treatment as they were when she was going to Indianapolis -- whatever program she is enrolled in will have to submit a report to the court every other week detailing her progress, and those reports must include Reed's drug screening results.
Court officials confirmed that Reed gave birth to her third child several weeks ago, and that the infant remains in Reed's care. The children involved in Reed's case are currently residing with family members.
Reed faces charges of Class C felony neglect of a dependent (two counts), Class C felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor (two counts), Class D felony neglect of a dependent and Class B misdemeanor interfering with a drug or alcohol screening test.
Her trial is set for May 27, with a plea agreement cutoff date of April 30.
