TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle High School boys' golf team placed third in the Braves Invitational at Rea Park Saturday.

Greencastle finished the day with a 325 with Wade Huber leading the team, carding a 77 while Jimmy Wheeler turned in a 79. Luke Crimmins finished the day, shooting an 84 while Brad Haussin followed closely behind with an 85. Tyler Hopkins rounded out the Tiger Cubs score card with a 94.

"I wasn't happy after the front nine even with the wind conditions," GHS Coach Donavan Wheeler said. "I felt like a 167 was just a terrible effort, and I was trying to figure out how we were going to move forward if the rest of the day was going to remain bad, especially after Thursday.

"Then we started playing some golf on the back nine. We stopped trying to hit these super-tiny greens with the heavy wind and changed our mindset to landing the ball close to the green and relying on our wedges and putters," Wheeler said.

Despite the score on the front nine, Wheeler was happy with how one of his players finished.

"Wade needed this," Wheeler said. "This was a tremendous day for him after his terrible start this year, which has happened in preedvious years, and he need to convince himself more than anyone that he is as every bit as good as the veterans on his team.

"Jimmy's performance overall was solid. He's come a long way in the last four weeks developing and strengthening his mental game," Wheeler added.

Greencastle is back in action Today when they host Terre Haute South at 4:30 p.m. at Windy Hill Country Club.
