Two local residents die in Plainfield crash
PLAINFIELD -- A car crash on I-70 near Plainfield Saturday night claimed the life of a pair of Putnam County residents.
Luke Lovins, 21, of Cloverdale was pronounced dead at the scene of accident. One of his passengers, Erin C. Ford, 20, of Coatesville was taken off life support Sunday afternoon at Methodist Hospital. Ford had been transported to Methodist via Dove Flight helicopter on Saturday evening.
The crash happened at 6:12 p.m. near the 66-mile marker. According to a report from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post, Lovins was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on I-70 when Alfredo Luviano Martinez, 31, of St. Louis, Mo., who was driving a 2000 Ford pickup westbound on I-70, crossed the median and hit Lovins' vehicle head on.
Lovins' vehicle flipped onto the passenger side before coming to rest in the grass off the eastbound lanes of the highway, the report said.
Lovins, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the accident scene by Hendricks County Coroner Justin Newman.
There were three other passengers in Lovins' vehicle, the ISP report said. Thomas F. Ford, 53, Chandler B. Ford, 13 and Debora S. Ford, 50, all of Coatesville, were taken by ambulance to Hendricks County Hospital.
The ISP report listed all three passengers in critical condition on Sunday. Phone calls to the hospital seeking information on their conditions were not returned at press time.
Martinez sustained "non-life threatening injuries," the report said, and he was transported to Methodist Hospital.
Assisting the ISP at the accident scene were representatives from the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department, Plainfield Police Department and Avon Fire Department.
