Jean A. Borchers Pierce

Jean A. Borchers Pierce, 96 of Greencastle died Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Putnam County Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1912 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Walter R. and Harriet Johnston Borchers. She was a 1935 graduate of DePauw University. She married Earl V. "Red" Pierce on May 27, 1939, who was also a DePauw graduate and a member of the famed 1933 DePauw Football Team. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1993.

Mrs. Pierce had been a homemaker, active with the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at DePauw and in Girl Scouting, both before and after college. She was an active volunteer throughout her life.

Survivors include her sons, David L. Pierce and wife Linda of Venice, Fla., Ronald K. Pierce and wife Debbie of Denver, and R. Scott Pierce and wife Roxanne of Kenosha, Wisc.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Walter R. Borchers Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. P.T. Wilson officiating. Calling will be from 1 p.m. until time of service.
