Chester "Chet" Adams Trout

Chester "Chet" Adams Trout, 90, of Grand Ledge, Mich. died Thursday, July 2, 2009.

He was born April 6, 1919 in Fillmore, Indiana to Mossie Manetta Brown and Luther Ernest Trout. On June 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Klahn. He served in the Army during World War II in the 1550th service and command unit, medical section at Fort Knox station hospital as an optometrist from 1940 to 1945.

Mr. Trout was a master watch and clock maker at Linn & Owen Jewelers for 20 years and was a member of the American Watchmakers Association. He was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lansing, Mich. for 50 years, where he served faithfully on numerous boards and committees. He was a life member of Wacousta-DeWitt Masonic Lodge #359 F & A.M., where he was awarded the coveted Lou B. Windsor award. He was also a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, Grand Valley Chapter; was also a Compatriot of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the American Legion Post 48.

He was an ardent reader of poetry and history and enjoyed the hobbies of woodcarving, counted cross-stitch and painting. After 15 years of service, he retired from Michigan State University Museum in 1982 as Chief Preparer of Exhibits.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane; two daughters, Christie JoAnne Trout (Gerald Hacker) of Traverse City, Mich. and Laura Jane Kazmer (Wayne) of Lansing, Mich.; three grandchildren, Daniel Adams Bonofiglio (Julie) of San Diego, Calif., Katherine Elvira Bonofiglio Miller (Jason), and Joseph Michael Bonofiglio, both of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and a sister, Martha Christine Trout Collins of Greencastle.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Linza and Elwood, and a sister, Mary Ellen Glidewell.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Lansing with Dr. Rev. James Robinson officiating. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, Mich.
