United Way plans annual golf outing
The annual golf outing fundraiser for the Putnam County United Way is set for Aug. 7 at Old Hickory Golf Course. Golfers and sponsors are still needed for the event.
Hole sponsorships are available for $50 and a sponsor for the 19th hole is being sought. Cost for 19th hole sponsorship is $250. Raffle prizes are also being accepted.
Registration for the outing begins at 10:30 a.m. and lunch is set for 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.
Cost for the event is $55 per person and includes lunch and a golf cart. The cost for a team is $220 for four persons. Mulligans and a pick-a-putt will also be available for purchase.
The top three teams will receive plaques from Taylor Graphics.
"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," explained Executive Director David English. "I have to thank the community for their support. After all, it is the community's United Way. They make it all happen," said English.
A raffle is also planned that day with bigger and better prizes than ever.
"We have a $400 watch from Masons Jewelry, tickets to the Reds baseball game, Colts and Pacer paraphernalia, a signed Indiana Fever basketball, tickets to Conner Prairie and lots more," said English.
The United Way of Putnam County's goal is to raise $175,000 in the coming year.
The organization serves 15 local agencies. They include the Putnam County Red Cross, Area 7 Agency on Aging, A-way Home Shelter, Hope Haven Horse Farm, Johnson Nichols Health Clinic, Mental Health America in Putnam County, Opportunity Housing Inc. of Putnam County, Putnam County Chaplaincy Association, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, Putnam County council on Aging and Aged, Putnam County Family Support Services, Inc., Putnam County Youth Development Commission, Reading Improvement Center, Summer Enrichment Program and the YMCA of Clay County.
English noted he plans to bring back the big thermometer that shows the county's progress.
"People keep telling me they miss it, so we are bringing it back. We're going to bust the red bubble on that thermometer this year. The golf outing is very important to us. Raising funds via this helps us to give to the social service agencies that provide services enhancing and enriching the lives of residents," said English.
