GREENCASTLE -- The United Way of Putnam County needs sponsors for their upcoming 29th Annual Golf Outing fundraiser on Aug. 7.

"This is the organization's largest fundraiser of the year," said David English, Executive Director of the local United Way. "We need hole sponsors at $50 if they already have a sign. For $85 we'll make the signs and use them for the next year's outing reducing the sponsor's fees to $50 for next year," he added.

The organization is also looking for individual donations of any amount. More teams are needed at $220 per team or for $55 an individual.

"Additionally, we need 19th Hole Sponsors at $250 as well as sponsors for food after the event and for the Raffle," said English.

"We have a $400 watch from Masons Jewelry, tickets to the Reds baseball game, Colts and Pacers paraphernalia, a signed Indiana Fever basketball, tickets to Conner Prairie and lots more," said English. "But we still need more donations."

Registration for the outing begins at 10:30 a.m. and lunch is set for 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. The event is held at Old Hickory Golf Course.

The United Way of Putnam County's goal is to raise $175,000 in the coming year. They serve 15 local agencies with funds raised throughout the year.

"Every penny collected is valued to the utmost. We will be only as strong as the community allows us to be. Remember 97 to 98 percent of what is raised stays in Putnam County," noted English.

Stop by the United Way office at 2 S. Jackson Street, Greencastle to make a donation or sign up for the golf outing or call them at 653-5638.
