CBCC Sings for Last Session at Parkfest

Sunday, July 26, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- Covered Bridge Country Chorus (CBCC) will be entertaining the crowds for the last session of Parkfest on July 28 from 7-8 p.m. at Robe-Ann Park.

CBCC is a women's a cappella group of Harmony, Inc. based in Greencastle that sings in the barbershop style. CBCC sings in Greencastle and the surrounding community, performing for crowds as a chorus, in small groups, or as quartets in many different settings.

Throughout the year CBCC can be heard at their annual musical show, nursing homes, churches, community groups, reunions, area and international contests, social gatherings, holiday parties, and singing valentines. They sing all types of music; some of the types showcased for their "Music Throughout the Ages" theme at Parkfest will include barbershop, jazz, gospel, songs from the 1950's, patriotic, and possibly some Disney music.

Disney is the theme of the chorus' annual show on Sept. 13 at McAnally Center of Greencastle High School.

In June, the chorus competed in its Area 4 Competition and placed second out of six choruses hailing from Missouri, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Their score was high enough to qualify them to compete at Harmony Inc.'s International Contest and Convention, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in November in Providence, R.I.

The chorus will sing this year's competition package of "How Many Hearts Have You Broken?" and "When I Fall In Love" at Robe-Ann Park.

With over 25 members ranging in age from 8 to women in their 70s, singing a capella in the barbershop style is for all women of any age. Rehearsals are currently held during the summer on Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

During the school year, the chorus rehearses on Monday nights from 7-9 p.m. at Tzounakis Intermediate School.

CBCC encourages anyone who is curious or interested in singing, fun, and friendship to come to a rehearsal. For more information about the chorus or singing performances, contact Cheryl Beck at 653-4556.
