Senior center announces raffle winners

Winners of the drawing for a handmade quilt and two halves of a hog were announced by the Putnam County Senior Center. With over 900 tickets sold, the raffle was a big success. Senior Center Director Kyle Hutchison handed over prizes to Ethan Warner, who won half a hog, and Karen and Alva Wood, who won the quilt on their 54th wedding anniversary. GREENCASTLE -- Over 900 tickets were sold for the Putnam County Senior Center raffle at this year's county fair. The event was a fundraiser for the Center.

Karen Wood, Greencastle, had her name pulled out of the basket by Lily Richardson. She got a phone call from Senior Center Director Kyle Hutchison telling her she was the quilt winner on her 54th anniversary.

"When Kyle called, I just knew he was fibbing. I've never won anything," she revealed.

The gorgeous green quilt was hand sewn by several members of the Senior Center. It is a lovely white quilt with green designs. Wood plans to keep it in her living room.

"I'm always cold. So this is perfect for me. I still can't believe I won it," added Wood.

Ethan Warner won his half of a hog with only one purchase of three tickets at the fair.

"It just takes one ticket to win," joked Hutcheson as he gave Warner the information of where to call to have his meat custom processed.

"My boys will really enjoy this," said Warner. His sons, Kaleb, 9, and Eli, 7, were at home eagerly anticipating some good pork.

Winner of the other half of the hog was Darrell Brackney.

The hog was donated by Jack's Fine Foods in Brazil. The shop's owner Chris Styleburg has made many donations to the senior center in Putnam County.

"His help has really kept us going. I don't know what we would have done without it," said Hutchison.

The day the winners of the raffle came to pick up their prizes was a record day at the Food Pantry at the senior center. They gave away more food than they ever have.

"We've been really busy. All the money from this raffle goes to programs like the food pantry here at the center, " said Hutchison.

"We have a wonderful base of volunteers here. They do a terrific job and we're very, very proud and grateful for all of them," added Hutchison.
