Electa G. Whaley, 78, Rensselaer, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Seton Specialty Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born in Tulsa, Okla. on Dec. 17, 1930.

Mrs. Whaley attended Rensselaer schools, graduating in 1949 from Rensselaer High School.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer.

On July 14, 1950, in Rensselaer she married Leonard "Nick" Whaley, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1995.

She was retired from DePauw University in Greencastle, where she held the position of kitchen director for 12 years. She enjoyed meeting friends and having fellowship at Devon's with the morning coffee club.

She is survived by four children, Steven D. (Kim) Whaley of Ellijay, Ga., Ronald E. (Sharon) Whaley of Seminole, Fla., Daniel K. (Marcia Ann Nelson, fiancee') of Indianapolis and Susan K. (Larry) Chestnut of Greencastle; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Warren and Arlene (Ken) Minter, both of Rensselaer and Elsie Ledman of Lafayette.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Geren; her husband, Nick; a daughter, Nancy Gayle Whaley; two brothers; and one sister preceded her in death.

Friends will be received at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer on Saturday from 1to 3 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Buswell Cemetery, Kentland.

Memorials may be given to the V.F.W. Post No.1279 of Rensselaer.
