Library to enact new computer policy

GREENCASTLE -- Putnam County Public Library will be instituting a new program for its public computer system. The program will be an electronic way to manage the use of the 12 computers.

Currently, staff members are required to keep track of people signed in to use the computers and all printing.

"It's very labor intensive," PCPL Director Alice Greenburg told board members during the regular meeting Wednesday.

In addition, the program will help track number of users, both registered and non-registered. It will provide wireless printing for anyone bringing in a laptop computer. Patrons with library cards will be able to load money onto it for printing through the system.

The board accepted Greenburg's recommendation of the CASSIE system for the computers.

In other business:

* The library will be open until 6 p.m. Oct. 30 for Trick-or-Treating.

* In the library activities report, non-residents use was up a lot in July.

"That is unusual," said Greenburg.

* Work on the heating and air controls was completed as of Tuesday, reported Greenburg.
