DANVILLE -- The Greencastle boys' soccer team traveled to Danville Thursday night and battled the Warriors to a scoreless tie.

The Tiger Cubs had a good opportunity to score early but failed to finish on several plays. They controlled the ball well and limited the Warriors to seven shots on goal for the match, three coming in the first half of play versus five for GHS.

The second half was dominated by the Tiger Cubs, but despite recording 12 shots on goal they came up short, ending the game in 0-0 tie.

It was the second consecutive tie for the GHS varsity squad.

"We are working hard and possessing the ball well. We just need better finishing touches. The big positive is that our back line, including keeper Kyle Parker, Steven Miller, Nate Jones and Marcus Benassi have only allowed one goal in four games," GHS coach Dave Lilly said.

In the JV match, the Tiger Cubs blew out Danville in an impressive 9-0 shutout win.

Mitchell Ball started the scoring with 17:38 to play in the first half. Freshman Nick Tharp added a goal at the 9:16 mark, followed with two more goals from Ball. His second goal came at 7:37 and he completed his hat trick with 1:41 in the first half.

The score was 4-0 at the break and GHS scored five more goals in the second half.

Trevor Teal scored twice, while Cam Cash, Marcus Benassi and Sonney Basham each contributed a goal. Assists were recorded for Josh Bonebrake (3), Cam Cash (2) Nick Tharp (2), Sam Sloan (1).

Greencastle (2-0-2) will be home at Dee Monnett field on Tuesday when it hosts the Braves of Terre Haute South.
