Two-vehicle accident results in two deaths

Brazil Times/JASON MOON Traffic was stalled on Interstate-70 Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle accident. Two passengers in this white Pontiac Grand Prix were pronounced dead at the scene.

PUTNAM COUNTY -- A two-vehicle crash resulted in two deaths on Interstate-70 Wednesday morning.

Officials were dispatched to the Clay-Putnam County Line at approximately 8:18 a.m. for the accident.

According to Indiana State Police Public Information Officer/Recruiter Sgt. Joe Watts, it was reported a white Pontiac Grand Prix -- with an Ohio license plate -- was traveling eastbound on I-70 at a high rate of speed.

Watts told The Brazil Times for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed the medium and was struck by a Werner Enterprises semi-truck, based out of Omaha, Neb.

Two people traveling in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims have not been released.

Watts said the two victims were ejected from the vehicle. He added the driver of the semi was not injured.

Traffic was stopped on I-70 temporarily, but one lane opened at approximately 9 a.m.

In addition to ISP, other agencies responding to the accident included TransCare, the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, the Clay County Coroner, Putnam County Operation Life, and the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department.
