Sheriff's Department

Khristopher A. Tomasino of Cloverdale was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 north of C.R. 700 S near Cloverdale, when he slowed down for traffic in front of him. Tomasino's pickup was rear ended by a pickup driven by Christopher Gerlach of Quincy. Gerlach said he was not aware that Tomasino was slowing down and was unable to avoid collision.

Gerlach's truck was towed from the scene by Steele's Wrecker Service. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damage.

Cindy S. Roberts, Spencer, was traveling eastbound on West Walnut in Greencastle when she noticed the truck of James B. Ferguson, Brownstown, driving around the curve in her lane. Roberts stated she got over as far as she could without going off the road; however, Ferguson was still in the eastbound lane. Ferguson's vehicle struck Roberts' with the front driver's side of the truck.

Ferguson stated he was driving westbound around a turn and did not realize he was over in the eastbound lane.

Neither vehicle was towed. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damage.

Robert D. Fowler, Cloverdale, was westbound on CR 1100S when another vehicle was headed eastbound. Fowler said the other vehicle was in his lane, and he ran off the road to avoid collision, striking a utility pole owned by South Central Indiana REMC. The pole was surrounded by landscaping, including approximately four to five railroad ties and large sized gravel.

Landscaping was on the property of Amanda Uber, 2227 East CR 1100S, Cloverdale.

Estimated damage was $2,501 to $5,000.

Stephan M. Bryant, Muncie, was traveling west on I-70 in the right lane and was merging into the left lane to go around a semi. Bryant said he looked in his mirror before he merged and didn't see any vehicles and started to merge. He said when he was about halfway into the left lane, he saw out his driver's side window a vehicle next to him. Bryant swerved back over into the right lane, but the other vehicle, driven by Damon L. Maxey Jr. of Cloverdale, had already left the road and gone into the ditch.

Bryant said he watched in his mirror as he was stopping, and Maxey's vehicle flipped over in the ditch and flipped two more times, where it came to rest on top of the guardrail.

Maxey stated he was beside Bryant when he started merging over and Maxey swerved to avoid a collision, causing his vehicle to leave the road and flip three times.

No serious injuries were reported. Maxey's vehicle was towed by Steele's Wrecker Service. Damage was estimated at $10,001 to $25,000.

Jessica M. Phares, Greencastle, was traveling on Rangeline Rd. near CR. 225 E, when a deer ran out in front of her vehicle. She turned right and left the roadway into the yard of Rolland Vickrey.

The vehicle was towed by Jerry's Wrecker service. There was an estimated $750 to $1,000 in damage.

Amber Bell, Greencastle, was traveling east on West Walnut St. just east of CR 300W, when her driver side rear tire blew out, causing damage to the left rear area of the vehicle.

The vehicle was not towed from the scene. There was an estimated $750 to $1,000 in damage.

Jeffery A. Overman, Belton, Mo., was eastbound on I-70 at the 46 mile marker. He was traveling in the fast lane when he saw what appeared to be a wooden gate lying in the road. He was unable to avoid the wooden gate due to heavy traffic.

After striking the object, Overman pulled over to the shoulder to assess the damage to his car. It appeared to rip the oil pan from the engine.

Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle. Estimated damage was $1,001 to $2,500.

Mark A. Fox III, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 243 when he came around a corner, and a deer jumped out in front of him. The deer came from the west side of the road, and Fox turned left and back to the right trying to avoid the deer and lost control of his truck. The truck slid into the ditch on the west side of the road and rolled onto its top.

No injury was reported. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the truck. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damage.

James R. Bryant, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in Greencastle, waiting to turn left onto Medic Way, when the car driven by Courtney L. Costin, Greencastle, hit the back of his car. Costin said she did not see the turn signal of Bryant's car.
