Greencastle downed in three sets by Warriors

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle volleyball team struggled out of the gate and ultimately lost to North Montgomery in three sets Wednesday. The Tiger Cubs were defeated 25-4, 25-18 and 25-14.

"This was a horrible start for us," GHS head coach Trish Lowe. "I was so excited about our play on Saturday against some quality opponents and I thought we could play well against North (Montgomery)."

Braden Amis led the way for GHS with seven digs, seven blocks, one stuff block, six kills and was 7-of-7 serving. Kayla Nobles added 27 digs and one kill, while Jordyn Lewis had 15 digs, 11 sets and one assist.

Kandice Phillips recorded 12 digs, eight assists and 35 sets, while Jessie Bennett added seven digs and one kill. Hanna Cochran had two kills, one dig, two blocks and one stuff block. Kara Birt chipped in six digs, with Brooke Buckner addingsix of her own and Rayleigh Amis contributing one.

Lowe acknowledged that the team struggled in the first set, but was pleased with their play in the second and third. She also noted the squad needs to hit the court ready to play.

The junior varsity also lost in straight sets, falling 25-15 and 25-22.

The Tiger Cubs will host Tri-West today at 6 p.m.
