Tiger Cubs thrash Knights

BRAZIL -- A suspended starting goalie and a visit from an undefeated Greencastle team proved not to be a solid cure for the ailments of the struggling Northview boys soccer team.

The Knights fell to a very good Greencastle team Saturday by the count of 6-1. Northview entered the contest sans senior goal keeper Robert Joslyn, who was suspended following a red card at the end of the Knights' Tuesday contest against Terre Haute South. Joslyn's replacement, sophomore Jacob Booker, played aptly, making several impressive stops, but was unable to fend on a relentless Tiger Cubs attack, which allowed the Northview offense a mere one shot on goal in the first period.

Mitchell Ball, Brandon Query and Cameron Cash all scored first period goals, giving the Tiger Cubs (6-0-2) a decisive advantage by the end of the first period. Coach Dave Lilly was very eager to dish out praise for his squad, in particular an offense which has now scored 20 goals over the past three games.

"I think we came out and executed the way we wanted to," Lilly said. "Our offense is playing very well and our defense was solid. All in al,l it was a pretty dominating performance."

If there was a silver lining for Northview, they did seem to formulate at least a small offensive attack in the second period after finding none in the first. After two more Greencastle goals to start the frame, Alex Frankville finally got the Knights on the board with an impressive long distance kick. Knight coach Don Bryan said he has continued to be pleased with the progress and effort made by his young team, during what has proven to be a trying season.

"It's lack of experience," Bryan said about his team's struggles. "But we're close (to being where we need to be). We know there's potential there, we just have to make it come out."

With the loss, the Knights fell to 0-12. Bryan expressed he felt like a black cloud had been surrounding his squad throughout the season, and was hopeful it would soon relinquish, so as to help his team earn that elusive first victory.

"You look for a break down the road and we just don't get any," Bryan said. "We've had players banged up, players sick and (Josylyn's) suspension. Things just aren't going our way."
