Rev. Norris Lloyd King

The Rev. Norris Lloyd King of Greencastle, a former resident of Denver, Ind., died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at the Mill Pond Health Campus.

Born Sept. 11, 1920 in Blairsville, Ga., he was the son of William L. and Myrtle Mauney King. He married Ruth Esther Hill on Aug. 19, 1944 and she survives. He was a graduate of Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky. and Emory University of Theology, Atlanta.

Rev. King was a United Methodist Minister, having served from 1944 to1983 in several churches including Monterey, Macy, Leiters Ford, Coatesville, Brick Chapel and Bainbridge United Methodist Church. After retiring, he served as a supply minister for 13 years at Deedsville Methodist Church.

He was a member of the North Indiana Methodist Conference and attended Greencastle Christian Church; member of the Order of Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge, Macy. He had also served as a board member with the United Methodist Church Federal Credit Union.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sara A. Cox and husband Danny of Fillmore; a son, the Rev. Dr. Leonard L. King and wife Marjorie A. of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Forest (his twin), Ralph and Luther King.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Blaydes and Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Stilesville Cemetery.

Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Putnam County Humane Society.
