BAINBRIDGE -- Artists will have a chance to draw or design a covered bridge for the first Covered Bridges of Putnam County Festival, set for October 9 through 18.

The inaugural event will be sponsored by the Russellville Friends of the Park.

Registration is set for Oct. 9 from noon to 7 p.m. at the festival site on the grounds of the Bainbridge Community Center in the red tent on the southeast corner of the festival. A large covered bridge will be on display at the festival, along with free covered bridge maps courtesy of the Putnam County Conventions and Visitors Bureau.

Two categories are open to artists. Contestants can draw their bridges on an 8 ½-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper using pencils, grey tones or paint.

The second group is the creation of an actual model no larger than 12-inches by 12-inches by 12-inches and set on a base no larger than 18 inches by 18 inches.

The public will judge artwork by dropping money into cups with numbers for each model or drawing. Each age category will receive a prize. Age groups are youth under 12; youth ages 13-18 and adults 19 and older.

All artwork will be on display at the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau on the square in Greencastle after the festival is over. All drawings and models will be returned after that to the designers. Artists may donate their pieces to the Friends of the Park if they desire.

The group is also looking for entertainers to perform during opening weekend, Oct. 10 and 11. Anyone interested in donating their time to sing, dance, tell clean and funny jokes or any other type of entertainment can contact Greg Hedge at jiggyhon@yahoo.com or call him at 721-1331 as soon as possible.

Performers will be on the free stage located at the southwest corner of the venue across the street from the Bainbridge Fire Department.

The line-up so far includes 15th and Hullman, F5 and the House of Worship, all performing on Saturday.
