Jerry Schlueter, 69, of Cloverdale died on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 while tending to his beloved property.

He was born in Seward, Neb. on March 17, 1940 and was the son of the late Leonard and Maryanna Ost Schlueter.

Mr. Schlueter loved working on his land, fishing and hunting. More that anything, he loved spending time with his family and taking care of "his girls." Everyone who knew Jerry enjoyed his stories and love for life. He was a generous man and never met a stranger.

He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the US Navy, member of VFW Post #1550, Greencastle, past president of the South Central Optimist Club, Pheasants Forever and was a Certified Tree Farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jackie Confar Schlueter; daughters Christy Terry and husband Steve of Spencer and Kelly Newby and husband Craig of Cloverdale; granddaughters Ruthanne and Rebecca Terry and Madison and Alexa Newby; sister Jane Smith and husband Gene of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, Don Schlueter and wife Judy of Detroit, Stan Schlueter of Seward, Neb. and Bob Schlueter and wife Angie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Mary Schlueter and a great-nephew Romondo Undray Lewis, Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale with Chaplain Judy Schlueter officiating. Calling will be held from 2 p.m. to the time of service Saturday.
