GREENCASTLE -- The Horizons adult enrichment program will begin another round of classes the week of Oct. 4.

Registration for the seven courses being offered will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24, and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Putnam County Public Library.

Founded in 1996 to offer "an adventure in lifelong education," Horizons of Putnam County provides, in a non-traditional format, a variety of courses, both academic and non-academic that allowed participants to "expand their own horizons by sharing common interests."

Programs are offered in the spring and fall each year and are about six-weeks long, with one session per week. The curriculum is determined by a board of directors with two-year terms.

The courses for the upcoming session are:

* Ceramics -- Learn the basics of beginning ceramic slab work with Tzouanakis art instructor Megan McKee Crimmins. Explore various slab techniques and use the pottery wheel to make a variety of projects including platters, vases, and more. Tuesday evenings.

* Computer Class: Microsoft Word -- Greencastle Community School's technology trainer, Janice Heavin, is offering a class in Microsoft Word. She will begin with the basics. Tuesday evenings.

* Rubber Stamping -- Linda Gilmartin will demonstrate techniques of stamping that will enable you to create beautiful and unique greeting cards, gift boxes and stationery. Students will use inks, pastels, watercolors, punches and embellishments. Tuesday evenings.

* An Overview on the Apostle Paul -- Love him or hate him, Paul and his writings had a huge impact on early Christianity. We'll uplift the historical setting of that time, review the New Testament books attributed to him, look at the "revolutionary" changes that occurred under his direction, and examine the lasting effect his teachings had on Western Christianity. The instructor is Dr. P.T. Wilson, Senior Pastor at Gobin Memorial Church and the University Chaplain of DePauw University. Sunday afternoons.

* Knitting Gloves, Mittens and Scarves -- Cathy Walton, winner of multiple knitting awards at the Putnam County Fair, will teach you to knit gloves or mittens, and matching scarves. This class is for knitters who area already familiar with the basics of knitting. Thursday evenings.

* Playing with Pictures: Collage -- Class will create family keepsakes using photographs, magazines pictures, drawings, etc., and watercolors to make collages. No previous art experience is necessary. The instructor is Barbara Bates, a retired art teacher with a master's degree in Fine Arts from Rockford College in Illinois. Wednesday mornings.

* Increasing Your Bridge Knowledge -- Learn the basics of bridge from bridge expert Jerry Mosher. Come refine your bridge-playing skills and enjoy the company of other bridge players. Tuesday mornings.
