Gregg A. Gough, 69, of North Vernon, died along with his wife on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 at their residence.

He was born Nov. 18, 1939 in Putnam County, the son of the late John W. and Mona M. Hobbs Gough. He later married Marguerite C. Hraber.

Mr. Gough studied at the University of Connecticut and DePauw University, where he received the President's Music Scholarship. He received the John Phillips Sousa Band Award in high school.

He enjoyed music and played for churches, hospitals and nursing homes. He traveled the country with the Boston Symphony, tuning organs and pianos. He tuned pianos for such acts as Liberace, Elvis and the Boston Pops.

He is survived by his daughters, Maria Mauer of Greensburg and Jennifer A. Beleau of Salem, Mass.; sons Tom Gough of North Vernon and Tim Gough of Monroe County; a brother, John Gough of Plymouth; a sister, Melissa J. Gough of Greencastle; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Constance Ann Gough.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or the Friends of the Jennings County Public Library.
