Flu immunization offered by Mill Pond

Friday, September 25, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- Mill Pond Health Campus, a senior living community located in Greencastle Indiana, will offer flu immunizations for area senior citizens on Oct. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. The immunizations will be offered free of charge to area residents who are over 65 years of age with Medicare Coverage. Mill Pond Health Campus is located at 1014 Mill Pond Lane off of Indianapolis Road and Veterans Memorial Highway.

Complications from influenza can be very serious to the senior population. Vaccination is the single most effective way to avoid getting seasonal influenza, or the flu, as it is commonly known. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the influenza virus. Seniors, and other at-risk groups, are encouraged to get vaccinated early in the season.

It is important to note that Mill Pond Health Campus will not be administering H1N1 vaccine to the public at this time. The Centers for Disease Control current studies indicate that the risk for H1N1 infection among persons age 65 or older is less than the risk for younger age groups. Information about protecting yourself from seasonal flu and H1N1 will be distributed at the clinic.

"As one of the Midwest's leading providers of senior services we are pleased to offer this important community service to residents of Greencastle," stated Jessica Crafton, Executive Director of Mill Pond Health Campus. "We encourage area senior citizens to take advantage of this program." Mill Pond Health Campus is a Trilogy Health Services community.

Mill Pond Health Campus offers a full range of personalized senior living services including Assisted Living; Short Term Rehabilitation; Memory Care Neighborhood; Skilled Nursing; Adult Day Services; Respite Stays. The campus' senior living services are delivered by staff specially trained to honor, and enhance the lives of residents through compassion and commitment to exceeding customer expectations. • That is such a great thing to do. I work at a nursing facility close to Mill Pond and we are lucky to get the vaccines for our own staff by November. We need to step up! Good job Mill Pond!
