Reed

GREENCASTLE --Yet another pretrial conference date has been set for a Putnamville woman accused of drugging her two young children.

Amy Marie Reed, 27, was in Putnam County Circuit Court Monday for a pretrial conference. Per request of both parties in the case, another pretrial conference was set for Oct. 19.

"This case has got some time on it," Judge Matthew Headley said.

Reed, who appeared in court dressed conservatively and looking healthy, told Headley she was living in Putnamville with her boyfriend. She said she was working for her boyfriend's family's company in Cloverdale as a secretary.

Headley asked Reed if she could appear in court on Oct. 19.

"I sure can," she said.

Reed has completed an outpatient drug treatment program in the nearly one year that has elapsed since her arrest. Her attorney, James Ensley, asked Headley if he would like for Reed to submit to a drug test.

"Is there any reason we couldn't have one done today?" Headley asked.

Reed agreed to go directly to the Putnam County Probation Department to have the test done.

Reed was arrested in October 2008. She was charged with Class C felony neglect of a dependent (two counts), Class C felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor (two counts), Class D felony neglect of a dependent and Class B misdemeanor interfering with a drug or alcohol screening test.

Her initial hearing was held on Oct. 14, 2008, followed by a pretrial conference on Dec. 4 at which a final pretrial conference was slated for March 19 and a jury trial was set for April 8.

Reed was released into an Indianapolis-based independent outpatient drug program in January, and on March 16 the court granted a motion by Ensley to continue her trial to May 27.

In mid-April, Ensley filed a motion for change of placement so Reed could transfer to local treatment provider. The court granted that motion, and on May 7 Reed's set trial date was taken off the court calendar and another pretrial conference was set for June 11.

At that court date, the pretrial conference was continued again to July 30. That date was eventually continued to Sept. 28.

Reed was arrested at the culmination of an investigation initiated by the Putnam County Department of Child Services. According to court documents, Reed's then 1-year-old and 3-month old daughters tested positive for methamphetamine, methadone, cocaine and marijuana.

Reed was pregnant at the time of her arrest, and gave birth to her third child earlier this spring. That child is in Reed's care, while the two children involved in the case have been living with family members.

While she was in rehab, the court received reports on Reed's progress every two weeks. She also submitted to drug screenings.

  • Rehabs are making progress in treatment, but still, the demon of meth requires fervent prayer.

  • It is not very often you hear of someone doing so well after being on any drug, let alone meth. So what if it is taking some time to get her into court and getting sentenced?! Isn't the main purpose in dealing w/ drug cases and children to get the parent involved sober and living a PRODUCTIVE and DRUG FREE life so she can take care of her children and obligations? I do NOT think she should go unpunished by any means, but give her all the time possible to recover. Its so clear that those who condem or get upset that she hasn't been to court and sentenced yet have never really seen the damage meth (or any drugs) can do to a person, their family, friends or co-workers. Lucky them. But, Congrats to Ms. Reed, for getting clean!!!!

  • anyone whom can get off meth Congrads, but how many really do? getting on drugs is usually a choice and against the law. wh all make mistakes . Mistakes is a learing thing. 1 time it's experiMENTAL.

She was charged with Class C felony neglect of a dependent (two counts), Class C felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor (two counts). I call this just STUPID!

whom ever snitched her out (hopefully thinking of kids) GREAT JOB. you know she wasn't.

  • OK. Everybody is talking about her mistakes and judging her on them. You know what, SHE SHOULD BE!!! These are young children she put at risk, her own flesh and blood. How could any parent look in to their childs eyes and continue to harm them. I could not fathom harming any child in anyway, it is unacceptible.

Children are beautiful and precious gifts and should NOT be treated like that.

She should have the book thrown at her.She is getting off easy. I can not believe she has custody of her third child.

  • Haven a job dont mean crap,That wont stop her from druging her children. How much is enough???? Does it take someones life to get her locked up for good and her kids to be taken away fully?? Beacuse thats what its gonna boil down to. REDROSE2- I highly doubty shes clean and off of the drugs. Shes been in and out of jail for this more then a hand full. If she is clean its only an act for the judge to get her kids back. All I can say is she dont deserve her kids back. If she was a good mother she wouldnt have put her kids throw what shes has. All I know is she needs to be locked up and have no rights to those babies its best for them.

  • you are right i think she is putting on a act in order to get the kids back. want makes any one think that if she is clean and gets the kids back that how long is that going last. IT`S going to be a matter of time when she thinks it all over with.and then she will be right back on drugs again. you know you only hope and pray that it doest it to that point.

  • I just know no matter what shes not gonna change her ways. Those babies dont need to go back to an unstable mother. There in good hands now. I agree with you NIGHT189 its gonna be a matter of time and its gonna be back the same way it was before but possibly even worse. The judge really needs to look this all throw again but it greencastle for yeah they dont care. They can lock someone up for a the littles thangs but gives a slap on the hand to people who needs to be locked up and put away from the crap they do. I can go on and on about all this but the more I set here the more I get mad. LOCK HER UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEYS!
