Letha Bonifacius Thornton, 96, of Roachdale died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.

She was born Oct 16, 1912 in Pulaski County, Ky. to James Harrison and Rebecca Ellen Alexander Abbott. She married Clarence B. Bonifacius on Oct. 16, 1931, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1972. She remarried Herbert B Thornton on July 10, 1982. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1992.

Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Roachdale Baptist Church and a former member of the Barnard Ladies Aid. She retired from P. R. Mallory's in Greencastle in October 1977.

Surviving are four daughters, Anna Schroeder and husband Merle of Greencastle, Wilma Irwin and husband Don of Greencastle, Faye Bartlett of Roachdale and Mary Vangundy and husband Harold of North Salem; three sons, Clarence Boyd Bonifacius and wife Jan of Mt. Vernon, Ill., James Lloyd Bonifacius and wife Kathy of Roachdale and William Ray Bonifacius of Roachdale; 29 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Cope of Enon, Ohio; and two brothers, Ralph and Ray Abbott of Somerset Ky.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lucille

Cook of Greencastle; five brothers, Elmer Abbott of Greencastle, Earl Abbott of London, Ky., Charles Abbott of Somerset, Ky., Wilson Abbott of Crawfordsville and Vernon Abbott of Cincinnati, Ohio; a grandson, Jeff Crawford; a granddaughter, Dianna Bonifacius; sons-in-law, Paul Wilson of Greencastle, Speed Fenwick of Greencastle, Charles Sillery of Greencastle and Bruce Bartlett of Roachdale; and a great-great-grandson, Christian Taylor Stidham.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Roachdale Baptist Church. Burial will be at Roachdale Cemetery. The Revs. Kevin Bonifacius and Shannon Ivers will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.serviesmorgan.com
