The Waters hosts open house
GREENCASTLE -- In answer to the growing need for specialized care for those in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease or dementia, The Waters of Greencastle has expanded its memory care unit.
"It was created to provide a continuum of care," said Holly Wachtel, administrator at The Waters.
The unit -- named Moonlight Bay -- will provide a nurturing, homelike environment where each individual can live in a safe and secure setting. It will feature an enclosed outdoor courtyard to enable residents to enjoy the pleasures and stimulation of an outdoor setting.
In addition to providing care for its patients, The Waters offers support for the family.
"We have family-style dining to promote interaction and offer support groups for family members," said Wachtel.
Structured specialized activities will help increase sensory perception and maintain cognitive abilities. Staff of The Waters of Greencastle view family members of its residents as valued members of the care plan team and seek to actively involve them in treatment decisions.
"We have created an extended family," Wachtel added.
An open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at 1601 Hospital Drive. It will feature a "starving artist" sale, which consists of artwork created by residents of The Waters. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association of Indiana.
The public is invited to attend this event. For more information on the memory care unit, contact Stephanie Blevins, director at 653-2602.
