CARLISLE -- Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner Edwin Buss has honored Putnamville Correctional Facility Superintendent Bruce Lemmon with the prestigious Distinguished Service Award.

The honor was presented during a special ceremony last Wednesday in Evansville, site of the Indiana Correctional Association Fall Conference.

Superintendent Lemmon began his IDOC career in 1976 and has held numerous positions, including Director of Indianapolis Men's Work Release, Regional Director of Adult Facilities, Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Deputy Commissioner of Re-Entry. He is a graduate of Indiana State University.

For the past year Superintendent Lemmon has been doing double duty, serving as superintendent of both Wabash Valley and the Putnamville Correctional Facilities.

This week, Commissioner Buss named Sullivan County resident James Basinger as the new Wabash Valley Superintendent.

Superintendent Lemmon said he is highly appreciative of being honored with the Distinguished Service Award adding, "I would much rather talk about how proud I am of the department, my staff and our facilities, all contributing to the success of offenders preparing for a successful return to society."

  • Mr. Lemmon is my superintendent and he is wonderful. He's so much unlike unapproachable bosses we've had in the recent past. He's always willing to listen and tries to solve any problems that may arise. I hope he's here for at least eight more years, then we can retire together! HAHA

Bruce Lemmon is a fine man.
