Pride named Superintendent of the Year
The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) recently announced that Murray Pride, retired North Putnam Superintendent has been named the District IV Superintendent of the Year.
Superintendents in each of the eight IAPSS districts nominate and elect a district superintendent of the year based on qualifications and professional accomplishments. This marks the third time Pride has been so honored, having also received the award in 2003 and 2007.
Pride served as the North Putnam superintendent from September, 1994 until his retirement on June 30 of this year. He has been activly involved with the Association since first becoming a superintendent in Tell City, Indiana in 1990.
At various times during his career he served three terms on the IAPSS Executive Committee. In addition he was a member of the organization's Legislative Committee for three terms, serving as chair twice. He also served as a member of the State Superintendent's Advisory Committee, and just prior to his retirement was named the chair of the newly formed Communications Committee.
Pride was a graduate of the charter class of the Indiana School Executive Leadership Academy and the Hallmarks Leadership Training program.
When asked about the recognition, Pride stated that he was very flattered to be recognized by his peers for making a worthwhile contribution to education in the state of Indiana. He pointed out that the honor is one that is shared by all the people who work hard every day to provide the students of North Putnam with the very best education possible. He remarked how proud he is of the faculty, staff, and administrators he worked with during his career.
Pride earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University, his Masters of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University and his Educational Specialists degree from Indiana State University.
Pride and his wife Sara are actively involved in their church and the Putnam County community, having served on serveral advisory boards and committees. He is currently serving as the President of the Rotary Club of Greencastle.
