Humane Society says thanks

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

To the Editor:

We want to thank everyone who braved the weather and came out to enjoy the Humane Society of Putnam County's Second Annual Paws on Parade event on Oct. 3.

We especially wish to thank the DePauw Nature Park staff, in particular its director, Doug Cox, for allowing us to use the beautiful nature park for Paws on Parade again this year; DePauw Volunteer Coordinator, Janet Mellinger, for all of her hard work helping to make Paws a success; all of the terrific DePauw student volunteers who spent some of their Old Gold Weekend with us; and United Way's director, David English, for his spectacular photographs.

Tremendous thanks go to all of our Paws on Parade exhibitors, vendors, and volunteers: Joni Wamer, animal communicator; Corky Crimmins, Canine Good Citizen training; Janet Wallace and Beamer, dog training; Danica Johnson, Indianapolis artist; Vickie DeWitt and Rita Palazzolo, local artists; Rose Sneddon and Vickie Briones, Rescue 911; Putnam County Family Support Services; American Red Cross; SPOT Spay Neuter Clinic; Marion Harvey; Monica and Jerry Martin of the Putnam County Public Library; and Alpha Phi Omega.

Special thanks go to Tony Keith and his American Mantrailing Academy volunteers and dogs and to Bill Camp and his "America's Best Frisbee Dogs" for their amazing and exciting demonstrations.

Please check out their Web sites.

Finally, and most especially, thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Putnam County's wonderful dogs.

We hope that you all join us again next year for fun and warmer weather.
