John M. Newgent

John M. Newgent, 73, of Greencastle, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 at St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel.

He was born May 16, 1936 at home in Portland Mills, the son of William and Dorothy Knauer Newgent.

Mr. Newgent was the assistant manager for the Montgomery Ward store in Greencastle for many years prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and an active Boy Scout leader for Troup 99 for many years. John was a member of the Portland Mills Christian Church. Since his retirement, he has devoted his time to his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his wife, Willa Rose Green Newgent of Greencastle; a son, William "Bill" Newgent and wife Tammy of Greencastle; a daughter, Rose Marie Morge and husband Scott of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jonathan and Nicole Newgent and Gracie and Abigail Morge.

His parents and brother Bill Newgent preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
