GREENCASTLE -- A Greencastle man was arrested early Friday after he attempted to break in to a Greencastle business.

Greencastle Police Department Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins said GPD Capt. Charles Inman and Officer Chris Helmer responded to an alarm call from the Speedway gas station on Indianapolis Road at 12:55 a.m.

"Once arriving, officers found a male subject dressed in dark clothing later identified as Brian Kinton crawling down from inside the building," Hopkins said. "Kinton attempted to flee from officers, but was apprehended."

Officers found Kinton to be in possession of a screwdriver and a duffel bag that contained jewelry, police reports said.

At the time of his arrest, Kinton's blood alcohol level was measured at .10 percent.

Kinton was booked into the Putnam County Jail. He is charged with Class C felony burglary and Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.

Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley set Kinton's bond at $25,000 cash only. As of Friday evening, Konton remained in jail.

If convicted on both charges, Kinton could face up to nine years in jail.

The break-in is still under investigation by GPD Detective Michael Collins.

Kinton, 35, has no prior criminal history in Putnam County.
