Harold Rex Wendling, 85, of Roachdale died at the Waters of Greencastle on Saturday evening.

He was born Sept. 6, 1924 to Harold R. and Naomi Sands Wendling at Roachdale.

Mr. Wendling graduated from Roachdale High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he received the Bronze Star. He was past deacon and a member of the Roachdale Christian Church, member and past master of the Roachdale Masonic Lodge, charter member and past commander of the Roachdale V.F.W., volunteer fireman for many years and an avid golfer. He was a rural mail carrier for 29 years.

He married Betty Lou Suiter on Sept. 24, 1945 in Crawfordsville and she survives. Also surviving are two sons Drew, Wendling and wife Dee of Roachdale, Hal Wendling and wife Donna of Normal, Ill., three grandchildren, Loren, Alex, and Kacy; two sisters, Barbara Etcheson of Roachdale and Joan Johnson of Indianapolis; and one step-brother Everett D. Carson of Colorado.

His parents, brother Jack Wendling and sister Betty Jean Eggert preceded him in death.

Services will be Tuesday at ll a.m. at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home in Roachdale. Burial will be at Roachdale Cemetery. Roachdale V.F.W. will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
