GREENCASTLE -- At least they know what they have in store for them at the end of the year.

The Lady Tiger Sharks got a chance to see what the Lady Athenians had to offer this year on Thursday, and it was what they expected.

Crawfordsville won the dual meet between the two sectional powerhouses, 108-77, and set the standard bar high for Greencastle.

"Things didn't end the way we wanted them to tonight," GHS coach Luke Beasley said. "But we knew that going into tonight that Crawfordsville was going to be tough. They have a strong group of seniors and some fast swimmers. So we had no Illusion of what lay ahead of us."

The only first place finish that Greencastle captured Thursday was in the diving event. Riley Seahorn dominated the event, racking up a score of 167.75 points, capturing the win.

"There were some close races that we wish would have gone the other way," Beasley said. "Not just the first place finishes, but fighting for the second, third and fourth place finishes as well."

One of those races was the 100-yard butterfly. Melissa Ball just missed a second place finish with a time of 1:07.43, .38 seconds behind Crawfordsville's Kelly Menzel. Then in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Greencastle had the lead in the race up until the third leg when Crawfordsville's Victoria Farifield came behind and passed Melanie Bittles allowing the Lady Athenians to get ahead at the start of the final leg of the race.

"I always challenge the girls to come out and give it their best and that is what they did tonight," Beasley said. "We saw a lot of good swims tonight on both sides and we just hope that by the end of the year we are the team winning those close races.

"And that's our focus from this point on," Beasley added.

The Lady Tiger Sharks are back in action on Tuesday when they host South Putnam at 6 p.m.
