Community Christmas Choir to perform in Russellville

Friday, December 4, 2009

RUSSELLVILLE -- The Community Christmas Choir will be performing its eighth annual Christmas concert today, Saturday and Sunday at the Russellville Community Center.

This year's concert, "The Wonder of Christmas," will feature a 90-member adult choir, 45-member children's choir, dancers, a narrator, a multi-character drama team and various special effects. It is under the direction of Jamie France and was created by Phil Barfoot and arranged and orchestrated by Dave Williamson.

This free concert is set to begin at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with free food offered one hour prior to the performances. The meals will be a Salisbury steak dinner tonight, chicken and noodle dinner Saturday and spaghetti dinner Sunday. A free-will offering will be collected for the meal and all proceeds will benefit RCC.

In addition, holiday cookies and candies, donated by the 90 volunteer members of the Community Christmas Choir, will be available before, during and following each concert. A freewill offering will be accepted for any of the items with proceeds benefiting the 2010 Community Christmas Choir.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected at the door to help less fortunate individuals in the community. All items will be taken to food pantries in Putnam and Montgomery counties.

The Community Christmas Choir formed eight years ago when three small churches -- Browns Valley Christian, Freedom Baptist and Parkersburg Christian -- decided to unite their small respective choirs in a single 35-member group.

Over the past eight years, the choir has grown in popularity and size to include choir members from churches in northern Putnam County, southern Montgomery County and northeastern Parke County.

In 2005, the choir's venue was moved to RCC, where last year close to 1,500 people attended the three-day event.

  • If you haven't been to Russellville to watch this concert, you should plan to go. If you have attended in the past, you should plan to go again.

It is great to see so many people and churchs come together for this type of program!
