Edwin F. Barker, 74, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2010 at Hendricks Regional Hospital at Danville. He was born June 7, 1935 in Jackson Township, Putnam County, the only son of Virginia Ann Oliver Barker and Arthur Harold Barker, who preceded him in death.

He was descended from Waln, Alexander Wilson, Moses Barker, Levi Stewart, Abel Pennington, Daniel Davidson, Jacob Coffman, Joseph H. Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, John Clark, John Stewart, David Wilson, George Leachman, David H. Barker, Thomas Sanders, Gorham, George Oliver and James Oliver.

Mr. Barker graduated from Bainbridge High School and Indiana Central Business College. He had an avid love of literature, history, science, math, arts, music, sports, cooking, and gardening.

He worked at Kroger, Central Bank, International Harvester and R.R. Donelley's and was an antique dealer, farmer and contract negotiator of United Food and Commercial Worker's International.

Memberships included Arbor Society, National Geographic Society, Indiana Nature Conservancy, F.O.P., D.A. Veterans, and the Democratic National Committee and Party.

He is survived by business associate and partner of 26 years Jay McBride; two sons, Steven Lee Barker and partner Jedidiah Frankie and Scott Allen Barker; granddaughter Megan Renee Barker Taylor; cats Petunia and Zaza; and dogs George W. and Dittio.

Graveside Services will be held at Roachdale Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday. There will be no visitation.
