Bainbridge preserving its past

An entire corner of Bainbridge Town Clerk Jason Hartman's office if filled with memorabilia from the old Bainbridge High School as well as some historic artifacts from the town.

BAINBRIDGE -- New shelving has been ordered by the Bainbridge Town Council to house some of the memorabilia from the old Bainbridge High School and historic artifacts from the town.

Council members also accepted a gift from the Bainbridge Improvement Society (BIS) for $3,500 to help pay for the display case.

The town is paying an additional $2,400 to help for the cabinet that will be built by Timber Arts.

It will be 7 feet tall, 18 feet long and 15 inches deep and cost a total of $5,900. It will most likely be placed in the hallway in the community building.

"It's a great thing to preserve what we have of Bainbridge and there will be so much more coming in when they see the display," said Thursa Evens of BIS.

There is currently a glass display with some items in the community room already, but there is an overflow of items in Town Clerk Jason Hartman's office.

"I want to thank BIS for generously coming up with the money. Take my thanks back to the rest of BIS," said council president Richard Cope.
