Sentencing set for Florida woman

GREENCASTLE -- Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley has taken a plea agreement for a Florida woman charged in connection with an alleged trafficking incident at the Putnam Correctional Facility under advisement.

Judy A. Gary, 52, of Tarpon Springs is charged with Class C felony trafficking with an inmate and Class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The plea agreement calls for her to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge, for which she could receive a maximum jail sentence of one year and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Gary's sentencing date has been set for April 22. Headley is not bound by the plea agreement and could still reject it.

Gary was arrested on June 16 at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. Court documents said prison personnel found Gary to be in possession of what they suspected was a plastic bag containing marijuana when she was patted down and searched when she arrived at the prison.

The substance in the bag was tested and proven to be marijuana, court records said.

Gary was arrested at that point and was then transported to the Putnam County Jail. She appeared in court for an initial hearing on June 18, and her bond was set at $15,000 with 10 percent allowed and $15,000 surety.

Bond was posted on June 19, and Gary was released from jail.
