Wednesday, March 10, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- Do you want to make a difference?

Do you want to learn about philanthropy and grantmaking? Do you want to serve? Are you a Putnam County high school or college student?

If so, you should apply to be a member of the Youth Philanthropy Committee.

The Putnam County Community Foundation invites all eligible students to apply for a committee post. The applications are due April 1 and can be downloaded online at www.pcfoundation.org or picked up at the Community Foundation office.

The Youth Philanthropy Committee reviews grant applications from Putnam County youth conducting service projects, completes their own group service project, and seeks funds for their own youth philanthropy endowment. They meet monthly.

The committee is made up of high school-aged student leaders from all parts of the county. The program specifically provides funding for youth-led projects mainly focused in the following areas: Increasing literacy and educational attainment for youth, extra-curricular activities for youth, teen crisis issues (such as drug and alcohol abuse, suicide and pregnancy), health and wellness, respect for community and tolerance of others, and environmental issues and community beautification.

To learn more about this opportunity, contact Eric Wolfe at 653-4978 or ewolfe@pcfoundation.org.

The Community Foundation welcomes all eligible students to apply and can provide help to anyone wishing to complete an application.
