Rita W. Harlan, 75, of Greencastle, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at her residence.

Born July 7, 1934 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Smith Windisch.

She attended and graduated from Catholic school in Oldenburg. She married John E. Harlan on Sept. 17, 1960 and he survives.

Mrs. Harlan received her masters degree from Indiana University in history and was a historian, working at the Putnam County Library. She had previously worked at the Indianapolis Star and Times News. She was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and Ladies Guild.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Harlan and wife Ann of Greencastle; a sister, Carolyn Miller of Brownsburg; four grandchildren, Briana, Jennifer, John and Justine; a great-granddaughter, October.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul the Apostle Church with Fr. Stephen Jarrell officiating.

Friends may call at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m.
