Hutcheson earns Player of the Year

GREENCASTLE -- It's not common for a player to put up numbers that have him averaging a double-double on the season, but Greencastle sophomore Nick Hutcheson did just that.

He led the county in rebounds per game and was edged out of the county scoring title by a mere tenth of a point. In turn, Hutcheson has been named the 2010 Banner Graphic Player of the Year.

He will be joined on the team by teammates Tyler Lewis and Jordan Hickam. Cloverdale has three representatives on the team in Brandon Moon, Jacob Clark and Kevin Dean, while North Putnam will be represented by James Hedrick and South Putnam by Cameron Chestnut.

Hutcheson was just behind Moon in scoring with an 18.1 average on the season. He also added a 13.6 rebound average, with 106 offensive rebounds on the season and a total of 271. The 6-foot-7-inch Tiger Cub swatted 31 shots, stole 11 balls and dished out 11 assists.

Hutcheson scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, with his season-high 39 coming against county rival North Putnam. His season-high in rebounds was against Southmont, when he pulled down 23 boards.

He averaged 47 percent shooting inside the arc and 81 percent from the charity stripe.

Lewis was the Tiger Cubs' second leading scorer with an 11.1 average. He also chipped in 4.4 rebounds per contest, along with 25 steals and 26 assists. He averaged 48 percent from 2-pt. range.

Senior Hickam also averaged in double-figures in scoring with a 10.3 average and added 2.6 boards per contest. The guard added 12 steals and 32 assists on the season.

Cloverdale's Moon was the county's leading scorer with an 18.2 average to lead the Clovers to the best county record at 11-11.

The senior guard also dished out 37 steals, 88 assists and averaged 31.7 percent from three-point range.

Clark served as Cloverdale's point guard and led the team in assists with 97, while averaging 10.8 points per contest. He also averaged 2.1 rebounds per game to go with 55 steals.

Dean is the third Cloverdale senior to make the squad. Dean averaged 8.7 points a game ,and his tenacious rebounding style afforded him a 7.7 per contest average. He collected 65 offensive rebounds, along with 104 defensive rebounds. He also stole 12 passes, dished out 25 assists and blocked 16 shots.

North Putnam junior Hedrick was the third leading scorer in the county with 14.5 points a game. He also averaged a nice 3.7 rebounds per game, hauling in 17 offensive boards. He set up his teammates 32 times and shot an impressive 41 percent from beyond the arc and 47.2 from 2-pt. territory.

Chestnut, a South Putnam senior, was the team's leading scorer with an average of 12.9 points per contest. He also added 14 steals, 26 assists, four blocked shots and a 5.7 per game rebound average.
