Town considers appealing recent audit

CLOVERDALE -- The Indiana Department of Revenue has audited the town recently and found a few issues. Cloverdale has the opportunity to appeal the audit by April 8 and may exercise its right.

During a special meeting Monday night, the town council voted to allow its attorney Alan Yackey to contact a "tax expert" on behalf of the town at a cost not to exceed $1,000.

The audit revealed the town has not been charging a certain tax, so not filing certain tax forms. Clerk-treasurer Patti Truax told council members at the regular March meeting she contacted other towns the size of Cloverdale and those places were not charging the tax or filing the tax forms.

"Will the attorney tell us what to file and if it needs to be filed?" asked council president Kathy Tipton.

Yackey said, yes, the lawyer, who specializes in tax law, will review the audit and decide what is valid in his opinion.

In addition, a resolution was signed and passed to continue work on the $1 million storm water grant. The town won't know the outcome of the grant until June or July.

  • "Will the attorney tell us what to file and if it needs to be filed?"

What a "Duh" question Ms President. The answer will come at a price. $1000 for Yankee to make contact, $1755 for the research, and another $1000 to tell you what Mrs. Truax already knows.

Outstanding politics, great work, keep it up.

Keep your fingers crossed for the $1 million grant! That should be a great corruptor!
