GREENCASTLE -- North Putnam used dominant pitching and some key hits to shut out Greencastle in both ends of a doubleheader Friday night, 1-0 and 5-0.

The early game, in which the Cougars (3-0, 2-0 WCC) were scored as the home team, was a pitchers' duel that came down to the bottom of the seventh inning.

Dakota Malayer doubled to lead off the half inning, and was replaced by pinch runner Bridget Johnson. Lauren Green then moved her forward with a long sacrifice fly.

Johnson scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Taylor Judy was dominant from the pitching spot, striking out 14 while yielding just two hits and a walk. For GHS (0-2, 0-3 WCC), Mallory Miller gave up two walks and two hits while striking out seven.

Malayer and Mackenzie Asbell picked up the Cougars' two hits, while Taylor Pruitt and Kaytlynn Beaman had the GHS hits.

The Cougars took care of business earlier in the nightcap, as they put up one in the second, two in the third and two more in the sixth.

Malayer had two doubles and two RBIs. Green had a double that hit the left field fence and two runs scored. Morgan Robinson chipped in an RBI single, and Asbell had a hit and a run scored. Judy also collected two hits.

"Up and down the lineup, the kids are really hitting the ball hard," Cougar coach Jim Brothers said. "It's not the same kids all the time, although Dakota Malayer's swinging the bat well and Mackenzie Asbell is swinging the bat well. Lauren Green is as well. We just have different kids that are doing well."

For the Tiger Cubs, Skyanne White, Beaman, Jessie Bennett and Riley Seahorn all had hits.

Judy picked up her second complete game win of the night, allowing four hits while striking out seven.

Miller took the loss, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out one in four innings. Kayla Downing pitched three innings, yielding three hits, two walks and two earned runs.

Greencastle hosts Eminence at 10 a.m. today. The Cougars host Speedway at 5 p.m. Monday.
