NP observes volunteer week

Thursday, April 15, 2010

ROACHDALE -- The DePauw University Hartman House, in conjunction with the North Putnam Career Connections program, will sponsor National Volunteer Week at North Putnam High School during the week of April 18 to 24. The goal of this event is to encourage students to be involved in their community and participate in service and volunteer activities.

"Volunteers Make Life Sweet" is the theme for the event. Their hard work and volunteer hours will be recognized throughout the week. Students can also pledge to serve in the future.

A competition will be held between the classes to determine which class has the highest total of volunteer hours and pledged volunteer hours.

Every student that records or pledges an hour of service will receive a piece of candy, donated by Walmart, as recognition and reward.

Posters and announcements encouraging volunteerism will be used to raise awareness in the North Putnam community.

More information about the nationwide event sponsored b Points of Light can be found at www.pointsoflight.org.
