Mary L. Plessinger

Mrs. Mary L. Plessinger, 80, joined her loved ones in the presence of the lord, Sunday, April 18, 2010, following a brief illness.

Mary was born in Houston on Nov. 29, 1929, the daughter of Otis and Lelia Christian Cooke. She married Jacob E. Plessinger and moved to Greencastle in 1949.

Mary was a homemaker and later worked at Sherwin-Williams and Harriott Paint & Paper on the Greencastle square. In the 1970s, Mary became a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant and spent several years developing a loyal clientele and traveling to cosmetic conventions while earning numerous awards for achievement and customer satisfaction.

She and Jake loved to travel and to camp and fish. She enjoyed music, reading, board games and mostly time spent with the large extended family. Mary was an active member of First Baptist Church in Greencastle for nearly 60 years and had served in various capacities.

Mary is survived by her daughter Linda Keyt and husband James M. "Mike" of Danville; sons Aaron Plessinger and wife Cheryl of Greencastle and Carl Plessinger and wife Crystal of Greencastle; sisters Penny Pearson, Lois Jackson (Joe), Annie Laurie Oder (Wesley) and Melody Peveto (James); a brother Otis "Buddy" Cooke (Voncile); seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jacob E. in December 2000, and her sister, Helen Shackelford.

Funeral services will be held at noon today at the First Baptist Church, 404 Judson Dr. Greencastle with the Rev. Randy McNeely officiating. Burial will be in the Little Walnut Cemetery. Visitation and celebration of Mary's life will be from 10 a.m. until the service time.
