Jack B. Barnette Sr., 75, of Brazil, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Amo, January 15, 1935 to Malum and Stella Hood Barnette.

Jack joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He met Bertie Bemis while working at the Putnam County Hospital. They married October 21, 1961. Bertie passed away April 6, 2010 after 49 years of marriage.

Jack worked at Adams Ala Carte, retiring after more than 25 years of service to the company. After retirement, he worked for Roses Auto Sales and Gurley Leep Auto Sales.

In his free time, he enjoyed working in his garage, fishing, watching NASCAR racing, traveling, taking short trips with Bertie, and spending time out of doors. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He attended the Putnamville Baptist Church and enjoyed watching Christian Television with Bertie.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Alsip and husband Scott of Brazil; son Brad Barnette and wife Tammy of Greencastle; grandchildren Jessica Barnette, Lucas Alsip, Joshua Alsip, Tyler Stevens, Ashley Stevens, Sophia Barnette and Nicholas Barnette; sisters Virginia Edwards, Betty Buchanan and husband Edward and Kathy Light; brothers James Barnette, Bill Barnette and Robert Barnette; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alberta "Bertie" Barnette; son Jack Barnette Jr.; brothers Roy Barnette and Arthur Barnette; and a sister Geraldine Lawson.

Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday with Scott Alsip officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services.
