CLOVERDALE -- After a couple of tough matches to end last week, the Cloverdale golf team cleaned things up Tuesday at Clover Meadows, defeating South Putnam and Tri-West 170-185-185.

The Clovers' Chris Arnold was medalist for the evening, firing a 3-over 39. Up next was teammate Alex Evans and the Eagles' Dylan Gilbert, who each fired a 32.

"We played as if the last two matches hadn't happened," Clover coach Doug Wokoun said. "I am very pleased that we have shown the resiliency that I thought we had.

"Chris played well, and Alex Evans and Sam Jordan also played well. Gary is getting his game together, and I think his score can come down more," he added. "Ryan Book played seven solid holes and is on the verge of breaking through."

Jordan fired a 43 for the Clovers, and Williams was next with a 46. Book followed with a 49, and Mike Matthews had a 50.

For South Putnam, Alex Kelly was next with a 46, followed by Mike Nichols' 48. Alex Eickhoff (49), Dean Varvel (49) and Sam Gould (64) rounded out the scoring for South.

"Coach (Brian) McClure has done a great job with the Eagles," Wokoun said. "They all hit some rough sledding at the same time tonight, but it is evident that they are a much improved team from last year. Most of them had pretty solid rounds with just one or two holes that tripped them up."

Following a couple of slip-ups, Wokoun is happy with the direction of his team after this match.

"This was an important match for us from the standpoint of reestablishing ourselves," he said. "We have suffered from some shaken confidence, but this match will hopefully put us back on track."
