GREENCASTLE -- Residents and staff from Hickory Creek at Sunset, along with numerous guests, enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch Monday afternoon in celebration of National Nursing Home Week.

With music playing, staff members dancing and everyone eating, the afternoon meal was a hit. Members of the community, including Operation Life, Mayor Sue Murray, Chamber Director Tammy Amor, Senior Center Director Kyle Hutcheson and numerous others, enjoyed the kick-off to the annual celebration.

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) announced the theme for 2010: "Enriching Every Day." The weeklong celebration began on Mother's Day and continues through May 15. It was first established by AHCA in 1967.

National Nursing Home Week is an opportunity for the profession and individual nursing homes to bring into focus its residents who mean so much to the community and their families, as well as caregivers who give so much of themselves to help those less able to do so.

Staff members Jennifer Evans and Lisa Dodson entertained residents with an impromptu dance during a barbeque Monday afternoon celebrating National Nursing Home Week.

The American Health Care Association represents nearly 11,000 non-profit and proprietary facilities dedicated to continuous improvement in the delivery of professional and compassionate care provided daily by millions of caring employees to 1.5 million of our nation's frail, elderly and disabled citizens who live in nursing facilities, assisted living residences, sub-acute centers and homes for persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
