Visiting Angels opens non-medical homecare service in Greencastle

Monday, June 7, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- Visiting Angels of Greencastle is now providing non-medical homecare services to elderly people in Putnam County and the surrounding area. The Visiting Angels service is an alternative to nursing home care and allows seniors to continue living at home. Their objective is to make it unnecessary for seniors to move into a nursing home.

Tiffani Hamlin and Alisan Garrett, after working in elderly care for over eight years in Putnam County, saw a great need for non-medical homecare services for older adults, and decided to answer that need.

Visiting Angels offers the following services: hygiene assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands and shopping and joyful companionship. Visiting Angels provides caregivers on an hourly basis during day hours, night or up to 24-hour (live-in) service.

The Greencastle Visiting Angels office is part of a nationwide franchised network of 450 offices, which now exist in 40 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii. The original concept of Visiting Angels Homecare was started in Baltimore in 1992, by social worker Jeffrey Johnson, who provided extensive training and continuing guidance for Hamlin and Garrett and other Visiting Angels offices.

Hamlin and Garrett know it isn't easy to make the decision to invite a stranger into your home to provide homecare. That's why the Visiting Angels personalized screening system is designed to maximize the client's peace of mind. Clients will have the opportunity to interview in advance any caregiver who is referred to them. A client only accepts a caregiver that they feel totally comfortable with.

The criminal screening service Visiting Angels uses is the best in the industry. However, most emphasis is placed on the intangible traits in a caregiver which will mean so much in the day to day experience in working with them, such as a caring personality, previous experience in private duty homecare, desire to help people and a family experience of caring for a loved one.

The Visiting Angels philosophy is that the client is in charge of everything. Unlike some nursing agencies, Visiting Angels will not dictate to the client what their schedule is to be (i.e. what time to get up, when to bathe, meal schedules, etc.). Visiting Angels believes it is their job to adjust to the client's schedule and to see to it that the client remains comfortable in their own home.

  • Angels are just one of God's caregivers.

God bless you for all you do for others.
