Support made scout's project possible

To the Editor:

My name is Alexander Hazel and recently I was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout for Boy Scouts of America.

One of the final requirements to earn Eagle is to plan, fund and implement a community service project. I am writing this letter to publicly recognize the local businesses and people who helped in donating items, expertise and labor I needed for my service project.

Black Lumber donated lumber, Headley Hardware donated concrete and hardware and Pingleton Sawmill donated mulch. Volunteers came from all over Putnam County and included teachers and students from Greencastle, South Putnam and North Putnam high schools, my fellow Boy Scouts from Reelsville Troop 91, students and faculty from DePauw University and of course, my family.

I could not have accomplished my project if it hadn't been for the generosity of these local businesses and hard work of all the volunteers on that November weekend. No one told me no. Most stuck with it until the end. There is now bench seating and wildflowers at the front of Greencastle High School near the main entrance.

Thanks again to our wonderful local businesses and the hard working, dedicated teachers, professors, students and friends. That weekend I experienced the true spirit of community.
