Greencastle man sentenced for drugs, burglary

GREENCASTLE -- A Greencastle man is going to prison for his roles in a methamphetamine lab and the burglary of a Cloverdale business.

Cyle A. Duncan, 25, was arrested on June 30, 2009 at his residence at 609 Primrose Lane in Greencastle. Officers from the Greencastle Police Department originally served a warrant at the home to look for stolen merchandise, and consequently discovered methamphetamine and precursors for producing the drug in the bedroom where they found Duncan.

On July 1, Duncan was formally charged with Class B felony dealing in methamphetamine, Class C felony possession of methamphetamine and Class A misdemeanors possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. On July 18, charges of Class C felonies burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary and Class D felonies theft and conspiracy to commit theft were filed against him.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Duncan pled guilty to one count of Class C felony burglary and one count of Class D felony possession of methamphetamine. Putnam County Superior Court Judge Denny Bridges sentenced Duncan to eight years at the Indiana Department of Correction with three years executed and five years suspended on the burglary charge and three years with one year executed and two years suspended on the meth charge. The sentences will run consecutively.

In addition, upon his release Duncan will have to pay court costs and fines as well as over $14,000 in restitution to the business he burglarized.

After Duncan was taken into custody on the drug charges on July 1, officers found several items that has been stolen from a Cloverdale body shop on June 11, 2009. Duncan allegedly confessed to assisting another man in the burglary using his truck.

After the meth lab at Duncan's home was disassembled, officers continued their search and found several items of paraphernalia commonly used in the consumption and production of meth and marijuana, court documents said.

Duncan's criminal history in Putnam County includes convictions for domestic battery, resisting law enforcement, residential entry and battery, check deception. At the time of his arrest, he had charges of possession of paraphernalia, operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance already pending.

Duncan was previously sentenced to a direct commitment to Putnam County Community Corrections, but was terminated from the program for violations.
